Taking ‘blind dating’ to a new level, some companies now organise dating nights which are held in complete darkness. These nights are held all over the country and involve couples meeting at a restaurant in pitch black. On the way to a first date at a cash only Italian restaurant, I realised I didn't have enough cash and none of the six ATM's that I tried seemed to work with my UK bank cards (I didn't have my US ones handy). Not only was I late to dinner but my date had to go get cash at a nearby ATM!There wasn't enough wine to get me through the night. I went out for drinks with a girl and put my card down to start a tab, at the end of the night my card wouldn't work and got declined.I didn't have cash on me so I had to ask the bartender for the closest ATM.

This raises the question: can you successfully date without knowing what somebody looks like? With television programmes such as the popular classic ‘Blind Date’ and Sky Living’s recent ‘Dating in the Dark’, the idea of prioritising personality over appearance has never been more popular. But in many cases, as with this television show, at the end of the date, the pair is faced with a ‘grand reveal’ as they make a final judgment on whether their date’s looks match up to their expectations. When the lights go on, the couples must ultimately decide whether to leave the mansion together or apart.Mathew Horne narrates the dating series that tests what matters most when it comes to finding love - looks or personality?
